Apparently My Fairy Garden Needed a Cat

I bought light-up mushrooms for the garden.

Yes. Light-up mushrooms.

Because apparently at some point in adulthood, you stop judging people for buying whimsical garden décor and become the person standing in the store thinking, You know what my yard needs? Glowing fungus.

And honestly?

No regrets.

I put them outside with the light-up butterflies and the sunflowers, and once it got dark, the whole garden looked magical. Like tiny fairies were about to come out, hold a meeting under the mushrooms, and discuss whether humans can be trusted with solar lights.

The answer is probably no.

But still. It was beautiful.

The mushrooms glowed. The butterflies shimmered. The sunflowers lit up like they had been waiting their whole lives for a dramatic nighttime reveal.

So naturally, today I went outside to take a picture to share with you.

I lined up the shot.

Perfect angle.

Perfect lighting.

Perfect little magical garden moment.

And then Halo stepped directly in front of the camera.

Not beside it.

Not near it.

In front of it.

Like a furry photo-bombing goblin with excellent timing.

So I waited.

She moved.

I lined up the shot again.

And she did it again.

At this point, I had to assume she knew exactly what she was doing.

How do cats know when you’re taking a picture?

They can be asleep in another room, deeply committed to ignoring you, but the second you pull out your phone and aim it at anything that isn’t them, they appear.

A flower? Blocked.

A pretty sunset? Tail in the frame.

A magical mushroom display? Suddenly it’s Halo’s garden now and I’m just the unpaid photographer.

Maybe cats have a sixth sense for attention.

Maybe they hear the camera app open.

Maybe they simply believe all beautiful things are improved by their presence.

To be fair, she’s not entirely wrong.

The fairy garden did look pretty.

But the fairy garden with Halo standing in front of it like she owned the place?

That was probably more accurate.

So now my garden has glowing mushrooms, butterflies, sunflowers, and one cat who apparently believes she is the fairy queen.

And honestly, she might be.

Does anybody else’s cat magically appear the second you try to take a picture of anything else?

I tried to take a day pic, but Halo thinks all focus should be on her.

All the best,

Tia
