Catching up

There’s something kind of wonderful about seeing friends you haven’t seen in a while.

You know how it goes. Everyone gets busy. Work, family, appointments, vacations, kids, pets… somehow weeks turn into months and suddenly you realize you haven’t actually sat down together in forever.

Then you finally do.

And within about five minutes, it’s like you just talked yesterday.

There’s no awkward catching up period. You just pick up where you left off, usually with someone saying, “Okay, you are NOT going to believe what happened.”

Those are my favorite conversations.

The ones where you’re sharing stories, laughing about things that probably aren’t nearly as funny to anyone else, and trying to cram months of life into a couple of hours.

Of course, there’s always that moment when someone mentions something you completely forgot happened.

“Oh yeah! I forgot about that!”

Apparently, I need my friends around just to remind me of my own life.

By the end of the visit, my cheeks hurt from laughing, we’ve solved at least three of the world’s problems, and somehow there are still a dozen stories we didn’t get around to telling.

Those are the friendships I love.

Life might get busy and time might slip away from us, but when you finally get together again, nothing has really changed.

Except we have a LOT more stories to tell.
