September still feels like back-to-school season to me.
Which is strange, because I no longer have school-age kids.
There are no backpacks to buy. No school supply lists. No last-minute hunt for indoor shoes, lunch containers, or that one very specific binder nobody seemed to sell.
And yet, the second September rolls around, part of my brain still goes…
Okay. Time to get organized.
For years, this time of year meant schedules changing, lunches being packed, forms being signed, and trying to remember which child needed to be where and when.
Now?
My kids are grown.
And somehow that feels both wonderful and completely impossible.
It seems like yesterday I was standing in a school supply aisle wondering why one child needed seventeen glue sticks.
Now September arrives and nobody needs me to label anything.
Which, I’ll admit, is a little sad.
Also… peaceful.
Very, very peaceful.
I can walk past the back-to-school section without panic. I don’t have to fight anyone for the last package of pencil crayons. And I’m not making lunches at seven in the morning.
Still, I think September will always feel like a fresh start.
New routines. New plans. A little reset after summer.
Apparently, once you’ve been a back-to-school mom long enough, the calendar trains you permanently.
At least now I get to enjoy September without having to buy seventeen glue sticks.
All the best,
Tia
